How We Handcraft Our Sofas: Step-by-Step

How We Handcraft Our Sofas: Step-by-Step

At IQ Sofas, we don’t assemble Sactional sofas — we build them.
Every sofa goes through a structured, hands-on process designed for strength, comfort, and long-term durability. Here’s exactly how it’s done.

Material Preparation

Quality starts before anything is built.

We begin by selecting solid wood, inspecting fabric rolls for flaws, and choosing the correct foam densities for seating and back support. Only approved materials move forward — anything substandard is rejected immediately.

Precision Wood & Fabric Cutting

Accuracy is non-negotiable.

The wood is cut into precise measurements to ensure structural integrity. At the same time, fabrics are carefully cut from rolls using templates to avoid waste, misalignment, or pattern distortion.

Frame Construction

This is the backbone of the sofa.

The cut wood pieces are assembled into a solid frame using reinforced joints. Each frame is aligned, tightened, and checked for strength. A weak frame leads to a short-lived sofa — we don’t allow that.

Support System Installation

Comfort doesn’t come from cushions alone.

We install the internal support system — webbing or springs — designed to distribute weight evenly and maintain seating comfort over time. This layer is often hidden, but it’s one of the most critical parts of the sofa.

Foam & Padding Application

Comfort is engineered, not guessed.

High-density foam is applied to the frame and support system. Different areas receive different foam layering to balance softness and support — firmer where structure is needed, softer where comfort matters most.

Upholstery & Fabric Fitting

This is skilled craftsmanship.

The selected fabric is stretched and fitted over the frame with precision. Patterns are aligned, seams are positioned correctly, and tension is carefully adjusted to avoid wrinkles or loose areas.

Piping & Detailing

Details separate standard sofas from premium ones.

Piping is added to reinforce edges, maintain shape, and give the sofa a refined finish. Stitching is checked for strength and consistency.

Cushion Making & Placement

Cushions are built, not stuffed randomly.

Each cushion is constructed with the correct foam core, filled, shaped, and finished with strong seams and zippers. Cushions are then matched to the sofa to ensure balance and symmetry.

Final Assembly & Quality Inspection

Nothing leaves unfinished.

Cushions are placed, alignment is checked, and the sofa undergoes a final inspection. We test for comfort, stability, and visual finish before approving it for delivery.
